My 21st birthday was a few weekends ago and I thought it was time to officially celebrate. My boyfriend and I rented an airbnb in East Village for two nights and spent the weekend in the city. We took GoBuses from the Vienna Metro all the way into Madison Square Garden and the adventures instantly began. (I would recommend this company to anyone in the DMV-- it picks you up right at the metro without having to go all the way to Union Station!)
We rode the subway to Astor Place station and set out to find our room. After settling in, we went right back out to explore. As some of you may already know, I'm a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and the CF Clubhouse was thankfully still open. It was the last day, but I got to stop by and hang out with a few other gurus and a company called Obsessee. For the occasion, I wore a red pleated midi skirt, a gingham off shoulder top, and a red satin neck scarf.
From here, we were starving and decided that a giant milkshake sounded heavenly. We made our way to Black Tap Burger and got a huge cheeseburger (he got the Texan, I got the pizza burger and sweet potato fries) and the best milkshake I've ever had. We got the cake batter flavor. It had a piece of funfetti cake on top of an icing and rainbow sprinkle lined vanilla milkshake with the cake blended into it. Yes, it was worth $15 and you should go get one, too.
We're both 80-year-olds in millennial bodies, so we passed out from a food coma pretty early that night. We made sure we could be ready to go all day Saturday. We slept without an alarm for the first time in months (can I get an amen) and headed out on the town. Our first stop was brunch at a place called Pinks in East Village. We found a groupon for two entrees and two bottomless mimosas, bloody mary's, or beer for $27. Yes, total. It was such a steal. I ordered the breakfast tacos and he got the burrito. They were both amazing.
From here, we went into Times Square for a bit and then walked to the Rockefeller Center to go to Top of the Rock. It was both of our first times up there, and the view was so worth the money. There were three different levels at the top and they were all breathtaking. We got to see the city in a way that made us feel small, in the best way possible.

Anyway, that night we went to dinner at a rooftop bar called the Perfect Pint. Definitely go there, the view at the top is pretty and it's a very chill environment for college kids on a budget trying to have a good time. That night we went out on the town for a few hours and then crashed.
Sunday, our last day, we started out by heading to SoHo to see insta-famous Cha Cha Matcha. It was so cute, and the iced matcha latte was to die for. The prices were fair and the trip was well worth it. Definitely check it out next time you're in NYC!
After grabbing our coffee, we took the subway down to the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge. We walked the whole bridge, which was actually pretty annoying considering my personal hell is walking behind slow people. When we made it to DUMBO, we found our way to Grimaldi's, a local pizza joint. Tylar watches the barstool reviews of pizza and chose this place because of the rating it got. The rating came through for us because it was the best pizza I've ever had. It wasn't the gross pizza that has circles of cheese instead of covering the whole thing. It was just pure joy in a medium-sized circle. Grimaldi's is definitely worth the wait in line.
With a belly full of 'za, we set out to explore DUMBO. I had no idea how much there was to do. There was a carousel, a small beach where you can see the entire skyline, and a shopping mall made out of a restored building. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to explore before heading back to meet our bus, but it's on the list for next time. From here, we headed back to the bridge and walked back to the city to meet our bus thus ending our NYC weekend for the books.
Side note: we watched the Game of Thrones season premier on the bus ride back and I just wanna say... THAT OPENING SCENE THOUGH.
