My hometown is only about an hour away from DC, so now that I'm old enough, I try to go as often as I can. I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite things about the city.
I went to all of the museums on the National Mall when I was younger, so I'm taking this time to explore the things I haven't gotten to see before a big move when I graduate from school.
One of the coolest places I've been to yet is the National Gallery of Art- East Building. The bottom floor is full of neon lights and the entire building features pop art, modern art, and contemporary art.
Admission is free, so definitely go if you have some free time! It's not on the National Mall, so you may have to travel a bit if you're in that area. Everything is relatively close if you're willing to walk a half a mile to a mile.
Another place that caught my eye was CityCenterDC. It's in the same area as the Verizon Center and it was decorated for summer with beach balls and an aesthetic I had to go see. The location itself is a collection of apartments and high end stores such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
Close to this is the Smithsonian Gallery of Art. It's a lot of paintings and more classical art and sculpture, but there was an area dedicated to contemporary art that was way too cool. This picture is of my favorite piece. It was made of TVs and neon lights, all playing something that represented the state on screen. MLK Jr. was on the Alabama Screen, California's was the fastest moving screen because it's the most progressive, and Kansas was playing the Wizard of Oz.
There's so much to explore between DC and Georgetown, and I plan to go back a few more times before summer is over, but these are a few of the places I've explored so far this year that you should see if you plan a visit to the Nation's capital!
